FUNDRAISER CONCERT FOR YOUSSEF, ROUAA AND DIALA
On Friday, June 9, 2023, the Calvin Coffeehouse is pleased to present an evening concert featuring a variety of musical artists and groups to help raise funds for our newly arrived family from Syria. Our musical artists include:

The Fiddle Chicks (old-time and folk fiddle music)
The Uppatones (female-voice vocal trio)
Amy Stephens & Amir Haghighi (Celtic and Persian style folk music)
Voce Destino (female-voice chamber choir)
Brennan Sinclair (original music in singer-songwriter style)
Joy Vox Community Choir (concert choir choral music)

The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. (doors open at 6:15 p.m). Admission is free and a paid concession is available during intermission. All donations will go to Youssef and his two daughters to help them begin their new lives here in Canada. All are welcome. Please join us for an evening of fabulous music and an opportunity to support Youssef, Rouaa and Diala!

Youssef and his two young daughters will arrive on either May 16 or 17 from Lebanon. Calvin Church is financially responsible for supporting the family their first year in Canada. A member of Calvin has offered a suite in their home as a temporary residence until permanent accommodation can be found. Archway Community Services has been contacted, and Azizah Lofti, a Syrian Settlement Worker, has offered her services to help Youssef transition and learn how to navigate our government, medical and educational systems. We are continuing to fundraise through the “Go Fund Me” portal and need to raise $7,000 to reach our goal of $42,000. Any little bit will help. This month’s Calvin Coffeehouse event will be taking place this Friday, April 12th. Our musical guest this month is the Abby Middle Rock Band featuring music students from Abbotsford Middle School performing a variety of classic rock hits. Join us for great family-friendly entertainment in the Gathering Space and invite your friends. Doors open at 7:00 pm, the open mic begins at 7:30 pm, and our featured guest begins at 8:30 pm. Admission is free, and a paid concession is available.

YOUTH CONNECT
There will be a Youth Event on Saturday, May 20th from 12pm to 3pm at Calvin! We are making sandwiches for the homeless followed by games. Hope to see you there!

The youth are collecting, bread, peanut butter, jam, and money as donations to help reach their goal of making 200 sandwiches to feed the homeless. Find them in the lobby TODAY and next Sunday, May 14th after the service for more information or to drop off donations!”

Janet Holman moving to Parksville, BC
Janet Holman will be resigning from her Administrative Assistant position as of May 26, 2023, as she and her husband, Tim, will be moving to Parksville, BC. Janet has served Calvin Presbyterian Church faithfully as our Administrative Assistant and capably run our church office for the past 7 years. We are grateful for Janet’s contributions to the life of Calvin and will miss her. We wish Janet and Tim God’s many blessings as they move to the Island.

ORDINATION AND INDUCTION OF ELDERS: Calvin Church is pleased to welcome Malcolm McFee as a new member of our church’s Session, as well as Margaret Allan and Rod Thomson, who will continue to serve on the Session for another six-year term. The ordination and induction of these newly elected elders will be held during the worship service on April 2, 2023 (Palm Sunday).

MEN’S FELLOWSHIP BREAKFAST
The next men’s breakfast fellowship meeting will be at 8:00 am on Saturday, April 1st at the Roseland Restaurant, 33550 S. Fraser Way. The guest speaker will be Jean Thivierge, and his topic will be “Travelling Through Southeast Asia” – including Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, etc. Jean has previously given well-presented talks on Haiti and Singapore at Roseland Restaurant. You are welcome to bring a friend
