Cailin, a strong athlete, has enjoyed playing numerous sports throughout her years at MEI and was recognized as the Senior Female Athlete of the Year for 2020. This past spring, Cailin signed on with the UFV Cascade Female Volleyball Team on an athletic scholarship.  More than anything else Cailin looks forward to the day she can get back on the volleyball court with her team after the disruption of the COVID virus.

Reopening of Sunday Worship Service at Church

Protocols for the Reopening of Calvin Presbyterian Church

The following protocols are in response to the Covid-19 Pandemic and taking into consideration provincial health guidelines on social distancing, the guidelines of the Presbyterian church in Canada and other measures to reduce the risks of transmission. At Calvin Presbyterian Church we take the health of our members and visitors seriously.

First, please stay home if you or any member of your household is sick.  Rev. Thomas Kim will still provide online worship service. Attending in-Church Service is something you should consider if you are comfortable doing so. The first Sunday Service of reopening will be Sunday July 5th 10 am.

Congregants must sign-up by email or phone-in to indicate their attendance of Church Service by Fridays 10:00am. The first forty (40) congregants who have signed-up will be allowed into the Sanctuary on Sunday morning. Those who register late will be considered first for the following Sunday. This ensures fair access for all.

*Office email: office@calvinpresbyterian.ca  Phone: 604 859-6902

Secondly, it will be a multi- phase reopening. Session invite your thoughts and comments.  We will move into the next phase of reopening when provincial health officials and the Presbyterian Church in Canada introduce new guidelines.

*There will be a second in-Church Service if there is demand.

Finally, let us, please, encourage one another. It may be inconvenient for you to follow the protocols. However we all miss the worship and fellowship in our church family. Whether you stay home or come to church on Sunday for worship, let us continue to encourage one another in Jesus’ name.

Phase ONE of Reopening

  1. All congregants must wear mask while in the Sanctuary, the gathering space, or any part of the Church building.
  2. Congregants must wear mask while singing in the course of the Church Service.

  4. Hand sanitizer must be used before you enter the Sanctuary.
  5. Congregants will enter and leave the Sanctuary after service in an orderly manner to keep to the required two (2) meters social distancing. Please follow traffic arrows.
  6. Offertory plates will be placed at the entrances to the Sanctuary. Please place your offertory in the plates as you enter the Sanctuary.
  7. All pews will be marked to ensure that we keep to the required two (2) meters social distancing.
  8. Families and people who live in the same household may sit together in the Sanctuary.
  9. Children will remain with their families during children’s time.
  10. Kids Connect is suspended.
  11. Handshakes are not allowed in the Church premises.
  12. All the pews and door handles will be sanitized after Church Service.

Benediction               The Rev. Thomas Kim

It is with great sadness that we bring you this update. After one year of immense courage and determination, struggle and discomfort, Rev. Dr. Hans Kouwenberg passed away on June 10th to be with his Eternal Father. With knowledge of an endpoint to his earthy life, we as family have shared both tears and occasional smiles with him in his final days. He was in the presence of his family, with Colleen at his side.

In the upcoming weeks, there will be a small family gathering as a memorial to our dear husband, father, Opa, and brother. A larger memorial service will be held, in time, as current limitations lift from larger gatherings. We will provide further details regarding a memorial service. Colleen is appreciating some time with family in the next few days. We appreciate your respect of this time. Thank you for your kindness during this difficult journey.

FACEMASKS AVAILABLE: If anyone would still like to pick up their FREE home-made facemask, and any additional ones for the price of $5.00 each, Heather Davis still has some left. They can be picked up at the church office on Wednesday and Friday mornings between 9AM and Noon. Thank you.

GRAD SUNDAY: We will be celebrating all the graduates during the online worship service next Sunday, June 21stThis is the time of year when some of our youth may be graduating from elementary school, junior high school, high school, college or university, and we wish to acknowledge and applaud their achievements. If you are graduating, or would like to recognize someone who is, please send a photo of the graduate and a short write up about them to Janet at office@calvinpresbyterian.ca no later than June 17th.  Thank you.
