On Sunday, November 19, it was announced that Rev. Axel Schoeber would be assisting Calvin with its day-to-day operations during this time of transition. We welcome you with open arms!
Axel was born in Alberta and raised in Vancouver. Son of immigrants, he learned to function as a “third-culture kid,” speaking and being both German and English.
He did well in school, but it took until late high school before he understood the reason for his study. He was introduced by friends to faith in Jesus and now had a purpose to undergird his work and learning. It was to know and love the Lord and make known the reality, wonder and beauty of God’s presence through Christ to all us.
He started as an elementary school teacher in Lillooet, B.C., but soon felt called into ministry. He has been a pastor in Baptist churches in Jasper, Calgary, Penticton and Victoria for 27 years. He then was invited to equip pastors for over 8 years at Carey Theological College in Vancouver, finishing that work in the summer of 2017.
Axel has studied a lot, obtaining a Bachelor of Education, Master of Divinity, Master of Theology in New Testament, Doctor of Ministry in disciplemaking, Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy, both in Reformation History.
He has been married for 40 years, and has two married children and three grandchildren. Axel also coached soccer at a competitive, provincial-level for several years, twice finishing second in BC.
Axel is pleased at this time to assist Calvin Presbyterian in embracing a new future.
God’s blessings on Gideon Akuffo and Marissa Bitter who recently graduated from our Kid Connect program. The program is intended for children up to grade 6. Gideon and Marissa were presented with gifts to remember this day by.
Axel Schoeber was our special guest pastor on September 17. He has been an elementary school teacher and a Baptist pastor for 27 years in Jasper, Calgary, Penticton and Victoria. He also served for eight 1/2 years as Associate Professor of Supervised Ministry at Carey Theological College. He has become a consultant for online theological course design, and delights, with his wife Karen, in his family of two adult children, their spouses, and two (soon to be three) grandchildren. Axel has also coached youth soccer at the provincial competitive level.
Kid Connect will begin Sunday, September 17. It is open to children up to grade 6. Parents of preschool children who are new to our program should accompany their children for the beginning sessions. Registration forms will be available.
